About Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
Iby’Iwacu Village is found adjacent to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda, one of the Africa’s premier gorilla trekking destinations. It is the most visited area for cultural experiences after or before tracking mountain gorillas. The Iby’Iwacu cultural village is home to the ex-poachers and a local initiative was launched to help them earn a living rather than depending on poaching practices/illegal activities.
Iby’Iwacu cultural village began in 2005 by reformed poachers and communities adjacent to Volcanoes National Park. At Iby’Iwacu village, visitors have a lot to be part including learning how the local banana beer ‘Urwagwa’ is made from the initial stages to the finished product. In the process, you will have a chance to taste what has been made or produced.
About Nyamirambo Women’s Center (NWC)
The Nyamirambo Women’s Center started in 2008 as a self-help group and luckily, it grew to be a center that provides free education for women in the Nyamirambo neighborhood. The center attracts many women who come for different purposes including sewing, handcraft making, literacy, English classes, computer lessons, and more. Today, the Nyamirambo Women’s Center serves as one of the outstanding community-based tourism initiatives in Rwanda providing classic cultural walks in Nyamirambo and Umutima.
