The 3 days Nyiragongo safari takes you through a hike to the historical Mount Nyiragongo in the Virunga National Park. Nyiragongo Volcano is undoubtedly one of the world’s active volcanoes that still exist today and rises at elevation range of 3470m in the D.R.C, Virunga National Park. This volcano is 20kms away from Goma Town of D.R.C and features an incredible crater of 2kms wide and powerful lava lake which you should expect to explore during your 3 days Nyiragongo safari.

Day 3: Descend back to Kibati & depart for Kigali

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Virunga National Park (VNP) via Gisenyi

A warm welcome from your guide after breakfast at the hotel in Kigali and after, briefing. You will tour Kigali city-go visit Kigali genocide centre, craft markets, museum and in Nyanza visit the kings palace. After leisurely lunch, cross to the D.R.C from Gisenyi through Goma border to check into the lodge or hotel.

Day 2: Trekking to Nyiragongo summits with a guide

Breakfast early morning and later, connect to Kibati for briefing on your Nyiragongo trek. At 9:00am, with your packed snacks, bottled water, the guide leads you on a trek to the Nyiragongo summits. Your Nyiragongo hike is expected to take you about 5 hours though this will be determined by your level of physical fitness. At the summits, enjoy the glow of fiery Lava Lake at night, take pictures and later, retire for the night at Nyiragongo shelters.

Day 3: Descend back to Kibati & depart for Kigali

Enjoy your cup of tea/coffee at Nyiragongo shelters and after, begin descending back to Kibati while enjoying mesmerizing views of Lake Kivu, Virunga Park and Goma Town. Meet your tour leader ready to be returned to Kigali to catch up with your flight at Kigali airport (KGL).
